HARMONIUM MEMBERS TO HOST DINNERS
For immediate release

Harmonium Choral Society will hold its Fall fundraiser Saturday, October 1st. Members of Harmonium will host intimate dinners for 8-10 people in their lovely area homes, after which all the parties will join up at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison for dessert, coffee, displays, prizes, and music.

For $25 you can be wined and dined in an intimate atmosphere with other lovers of choral music. Joining the party at Grace Church for just dessert costs only $10. We are also happy to receive donations of prizes or underwriting of expenses.

Learn more about Harmonium, meet interesting folks, and support Harmonium’s programs. Space is limited, so call today for a reservation: 973-538-6969. Or visit the Harmonium website at: http://www.harmonium.org.

The chorus performs an amazing variety of music, from medieval chants to world premieres of works that we commission. Our hallmark is the “themed” concert in which all of the music relates to a particular theme, but is drawn from the repertoire of different cultures, centuries and styles. We produce six main concerts each season in the Morristown area. Our Outreach chorus also sings special programs in schools, retirement homes, and at community festivals and events such as First Night Morris and the biannual Dodge Poetry Festival.

While Harmonium and its dynamic director, Dr. Anne Matlack, have received awards for innovative programs and musical excellence, we are most proud of our commitment to advancing the art of choral singing. We audition high school students and currently have several young people singing with us. We sponsor a Student Composition Contest in which we perform the young composers’ winning compositions in our spring concert each year. We host a Musicianship Workshop that provides learning opportunities in sight-reading, composition, musical style and blend. Most notably, we commission new choral works, including one for our 25th anniversary last season.

Harmonium members are passionate about singing and they share their enthusiasm and joy with their audiences. As one reviewer commented: “Harmonium concerts are what ‘amateur’ music is all about, the joy of making music where the only reward is one’s personal enjoyment and the opportunity to share with others. That their performances are fully professional is an added benefit…” (William Storrer in Classical New Jersey).

The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation provides funding for the composition contest. Additional funding has been made possible in part by funds from the Arts Council of the Morris Area through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. But these funds plus ticket revenues are still not sufficient to cover all our costs. We hope you’ll want to help us keep this organization which gives so much to both its members and the community on solid financial footing.
